Single-Visit Crowns: Digital CEREC Technology
What is a Crown?
A crown is a porcelain covering that encompasses a single tooth to restore the tooth to its correct size, anatomical shape and color. A crown is recommended when the tooth structure is weakened by decay, cracks, fractures or after root canal treatment. If your tooth is broken or there is a large amount of decay present, a large composite filling called a "Build Up" is performed to improve the tooth's foundation prior to taking digital scans.
Single-Visit Crown Appointments
At Stauffer Family Dental, we are able to scan your tooth, mill and design your crown in our office lab. How it works is the dentist removes a conservative amount of tooth structure and then acquires digital scans of your tooth using our CEREC computer. The computer sends the images to our milling unit to design the shape of your crown and then to the oven where we give your crown a natural, custom color. Once your crown is finished baking we permanently bond it to your tooth using dental cement. We are so excited about CEREC Technology because it allows you to receive your crown in one appointment... which means NO temporaries! We have the ability and additional training to fabricate most crowns using our CEREC machine.
