Ouch! I have a Canker Sore!

Canker sores, also called ulcers, are pesky!

They form inside the mouth and look like small, white or gray oval sores. Although their exact cause is undetermined, the experts believe their cause is related to stress, viruses, bacteria, immune system problems or sensitivities. Oral soft tissue trauma, such as injury or biting your lip or tongue can also be the cause of a canker sore.

Unfortunately, it takes one to two weeks for a canker sore to completely heal. For temporary relief, you may purchase topical anesthetics, antimicrobial mouthwashes or rinse with warm salt water. It’s important to avoid scalding hot drinks, spicy or acidic foods (grapefruit, tomatoes, oranges, soda) because they can exacerbate a canker sore.

Canker sores can be very painful. If you are suffering from a lingering canker sore, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Fulton or Dr. Stauffer @ 614-882-2249.
