Root Canals

 

When a tooth becomes infected or decay has progressed into the nerve of the tooth, a root canal is performed. During this procedure, the infected nerve and surrounding decay is removed. The tooth is sealed inside and then restored with a filling. Once a tooth has had a root canal, it becomes weak and a crown should be placed to strengthen the tooth.

 

Certain root canals can be a little more complex and require the expertise of a specialist and we would refer you to a specialist in root canals called an endodontist.
