Invest in an Automatic Toothbrush: An automatic toothbrush with soft bristles is best for braces because the bristle rotation allows you to clean your brackets, underneath your wires and around your hardware. If the bristles start to look worn, replace your brush head (generally, brush heads should be changed every 3 months). Brush after each meal to remove food debris.
Keep in mind: Brushing with harder pressure while wearing braces does not mean your mouth is cleaner–let the angle of the automatic toothbrush do the work for you. To avoid traumatizing your gums, don’t “saw” your teeth with backward and forward motions—instead, systematically start on one side and slowly move to the other until you've thoroughly cleaned all the surfaces.
